Our Impact: How Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems Brings Hope to Coastal Children and Aeta Communities
A Story of Service, Hope, and Impact
What does it mean to make an impact?
For the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems, it means going where children need us most—whether along the coastal communities of Lubao, Pampanga, or high in the mountains where Aeta children live.
Our video entry, “Our Impact,” was created to tell this story. It was proudly submitted to the Kiwanis ASPAC Stories Video Contest, where it was honored with First Place. This recognition is deeply meaningful to our club because the video represents more than a competition entry. It represents the collective heart, dedication, and service of every Kiwanian, volunteer, partner, and supporter who helped make these projects possible.
Our impact is measured not only by the number of children we serve, but by the hope we bring, the smiles we create, and the communities we continue to reach.
Bringing Christmas Joy to Children Along the Coast
One of our most meaningful initiatives was our Shoebox Gift Project, which brought Christmas joy to 100 children living in the coastal community of Sta. Teresa 2nd, Lubao, Pampanga.
The journey itself was part of the experience. Kiwanians traveled by motorized banca, carrying shoebox gifts and snacks for the children. The excitement grew as we approached the community and were warmly welcomed by children and parents.
Inside each shoebox was a simple collection of gifts—school supplies, personal care items, toys, and other thoughtful surprises. Yet to the children receiving them, these were far more than ordinary objects. Each box represented kindness. Each gift carried a message: You are remembered. You are valued. You matter.
The children’s smiles and excitement reminded us of the power of a simple gift given with love.
The project also demonstrated that service is about more than giving material things. It is about showing up, building relationships, and bringing hope to communities that are often overlooked.
The joy was shared by everyone—including our Kiwanians, who enjoyed the adventure of traveling by banca and spending meaningful time with the children and families.
Reaching the Aeta Children in the Mountains
Our story of impact also reaches beyond the coastline and into the mountains.
For 7 consecutive years, the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems has been committed to serving the Aeta children of Nabuclod, recognizing the unique needs and challenges faced by indigenous communities.
Our Gift of Hope initiative is rooted in a simple belief: every child deserves to feel remembered, supported, and hopeful about the future.
Reaching these communities requires effort, time, and commitment. But every journey into the mountains is rewarded by the smiles of children and the warm welcome of the community.
Through our service projects, we strive to provide not only essential items but also opportunities for connection, encouragement, and cultural appreciation. We want every child to know that they are part of a larger community that cares about their future.
These experiences remind us that service has no boundaries. Whether a child lives beside the sea or high in the mountains, their dreams and hopes deserve to be nurtured.
Why Our Video “Our Impact” Deserved Recognition
The Kiwanis ASPAC Stories Video Contest celebrates the stories behind Kiwanis service—the people, communities, and children whose lives are touched by the work of Kiwanians.
Our winning video deserved recognition because it captured the essence of what Kiwanis is all about.
It showed that meaningful service is not limited by geography.
It showed that a small club can make a significant difference.
It showed the contrast between two very different communities—children living along the coast and Aeta children in the mountains—while revealing one common truth:
Every child deserves hope.
The video captured the reality of service—the long journeys, the preparation, the teamwork, the challenges, and ultimately, the joy of seeing children smile.
Most importantly, it showed that our impact is created through collective action.
Behind every project are Kiwanians who give their time and energy, generous partners who believe in the mission, volunteers who work behind the scenes, and communities who welcome us with open hearts.
The award belongs to all of them.
More Than a Video—A Reflection of Our Mission
Creating “Our Impact” was a labor of love. Hours were spent reviewing footage, selecting meaningful moments, editing scenes, and telling the story of our service.
But the real story was created long before the camera was turned on.
It was created when a Kiwanian decided to volunteer.
It was created when a sponsor chose to give.
It was created when members traveled long distances to reach children in need.
It was created when a child opened a shoebox and smiled.
It was created when an Aeta child received a gift of hope.
The video simply brought these moments together and allowed us to share them with the world.
The Kiwanis Mission: Serving the Children of the World
The Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems believes that service is not about recognition. It is about impact.
The First Place recognition from the Kiwanis ASPAC Stories Video Contest is an honor we deeply appreciate, but it also strengthens our commitment to continue serving.
We will continue reaching children in coastal communities.
We will continue supporting indigenous children in the mountains.
We will continue building partnerships.
And we will continue believing that every act of kindness, no matter how small, can create a ripple of hope.
Because when we serve children, we are not only helping them today—we are helping build the communities and leaders of tomorrow.
Our story is not about what we received by winning. Our story is about what we have been privileged to give.
And our impact continues.
