The Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems does not serve children to win awards.
We serve because we believe children deserve opportunities, communities deserve hope, and people who care can make a difference.
Yet along the way, our work has been recognized by Kiwanis leaders and organizations beyond our own community. Each award has become more than a certificate or a title. It has become a reminder that consistent service, teamwork, leadership, and genuine concern for children can create an impact far beyond a small club in Lubao.
Our milestones tell the story of a club that continues to learn, serve, grow, and inspire.
A Journey Built on Service
Since receiving its charter on August 1, 2015, the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems has continued to build on the vision of its founding members and mentors.
Our journey has included service awards, leadership achievements, district recognition, regional honors, international participation, and—most importantly—years of reaching children and communities who need encouragement and support.
Our story began locally.
But the heart behind our service has reached much farther.
2015 — A New Beginning
On August 1, 2015, the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems officially received its charter under Charter President Jesusa “Susan” Uy-Capuli.
The club began with a simple vision: build a group of people who would serve children, develop leaders, build friendships, and make a meaningful difference in the community.
The club was strengthened by the mentorship and guidance of the Kiwanis Club of Mariveles and the Kiwanis Club of Kuliat.
Those relationships became part of the foundation on which our club continues to grow today.
2016 — Our First Recognition
Only a year after receiving its charter, the club received its first Club Service Award during the Philippine Luzon District Convention.
For a young organization, the recognition was an important affirmation:
Our service mattered.
But we did not see the award as the destination.
We saw it as encouragement to continue serving.
2017–2018 — Growing Through Leadership
The club received a Merit Award during Administrative Year 2017–2018.
During the same period, Charter President Susan Uy-Capuli served her second term as Lieutenant Governor of Division 2B.
Three club members also attended their first Kiwanis Asia-Pacific Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
These experiences broadened the club’s perspective and strengthened its connections with fellow Kiwanians throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
2019 — A Legacy and a New Chapter
In 2019, Susan Uy-Capuli and Marilen Ramos represented Division 2B at the 44th Kiwanis Asia-Pacific Convention in Taipei, Taiwan.
Later that year, on October 15, the club lost its founding leader and beloved Kiwanian, Susan Uy-Capuli.
Her vision, however, did not end with her passing.
On December 23, 2019, the club officially launched Gift of Hope, its continuing Christmas outreach to the Aeta community of Nabuclod, Floridablanca, Pampanga, through a partnership with the Alexis Louise Quiza Children Foundation.
What began as a project became a tradition of service that continues years later.
Some milestones are awards. Others become legacies.
2020–2021 — Outstanding Service and Leadership
Administrative Year 2020–2021 brought another major milestone.
The Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems received its first Outstanding Club Award.
Club member Marilen Ramos was also recognized as an Outstanding Lieutenant Governor of the Philippine Luzon District.
Under her leadership, seven of the eight clubs in Division 2B were likewise recognized as Outstanding Clubs.
This became an important lesson for our club:
Leadership is not about standing above others. It is about helping others succeed.
2023–2024 — Continuing the Momentum
The club continued its tradition of recognition, receiving another Merit Award during the District Convention along with additional awards.
But this period was also significant for another reason.
The club’s service stories were beginning to reach audiences beyond its immediate community.
Our members were discovering that documenting service—through photographs, stories, videos, and reports—could help preserve our history and inspire others to serve.
2024 — From Local Service to Regional Recognition
In March 2024, the club achieved its first regional recognition when its entry documenting the Division 2B Joint Tree-Planting Project became one of only two finalists in the ASPAC Green Generation Photo Contest presented during the 49th Kiwanis Asia-Pacific Convention in Adelaide, Australia.
It was a proud moment.
A local service project had become a story that reached the wider Kiwanis Asia-Pacific community.
That same year, another important milestone took place.
The club launched its official Kiwanis International website, creating a permanent digital home for its projects, stories, achievements, members, partners, and community impact.
Today, the website helps preserve our history while allowing people beyond Lubao to discover what the club does and why our service matters.
2024–2025 — Impact, Growth and Shared Success
During Administrative Year 2024–2025, the club continued to demonstrate that a committed group of volunteers can accomplish significant things.
The club:
Reached 3,036 children
Recorded 536 service hours
Served 17 families
Invested approximately Php461,475 in service projects
Welcomed 11 new members
Received another Merit Award
Was recognized as an Outstanding Club
Contributed to the wider success of Division 2B
The achievements were not simply numbers.
Behind every number was a child, a family, a volunteer, a donor, a partner, or a Kiwanian who chose to care.
That is the real meaning behind our milestones.
2025 — Growing Beyond Our Borders
In 2025, members continued participating in the wider Kiwanis Asia-Pacific community, including the 50th ASPAC Convention in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Under Lieutenant Governor Rey Bonaobra, seven of the eight clubs in Division 2B were again recognized as Outstanding Clubs, including the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems.
The achievement reflected something we value deeply:
When one club grows stronger, the entire community of service becomes stronger.
2026 — A Year to Remember
Administrative Year 2025–2026 became a defining chapter in the club’s history.
For the first time, the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems sent three official delegates to the Kiwanis International Convention held jointly with the ASPAC Convention in Manila from June 24–27, 2026:

But the biggest surprise was still ahead.
The club received two Grand Winner awards in the ASPAC Stories Video Competition:
🏆 Grand Winner — “Our Impact”
The video presented the club’s service journey from coastal communities to Aeta communities in the mountains.
It showed the preparation, travel, teamwork, challenges, generosity, and joy behind the projects.
The story ultimately carried one message:
Every child deserves hope.
The video was recognized with First Place in the ASPAC Stories Video Competition.

Featuring Lieutenant Governor Marilen Ramos, the story highlighted the personal meaning behind Kiwanis membership and service.
Together, these two awards celebrated not simply the videos, but the people and communities behind them.
What These Awards Really Represent
Awards are easy to display.
The work behind them is much harder.
Behind every recognition are:
Members who give their time.
Volunteers who help make projects possible.
Donors who share their resources.
Sponsors who believe in a project.

It is found in an Aeta family experiencing Christmas joy.
It is found in children discovering music.
It is found in communities that know someone remembers them.
It is found in members who discover that their time, skills, relationships, and resources can be used for something bigger than themselves.
And it is found in partnerships that make it possible to reach places we could never reach alone.
The awards tell us that our work has been noticed.
The children remind us why the work must continue.
