A Small Club with a Big Heart. A Journey Still Being Written.
Every Kiwanis club begins with a dream.
For the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems (KCLG), that dream began with a simple yet powerful vision—to create lasting change in the lives of children through service, compassion, and leadership. Since being chartered on August 1, 2015, our club has embraced the Kiwanis mission of Serving the Children of the World, believing that no act of kindness is ever too small when it is done with a sincere heart.
Although we are one of the younger clubs in the Philippine Luzon District, our journey has been filled with milestones that remind us that dedication, teamwork, and servant leadership can create an impact far beyond what we ever imagined.
Built on the Guidance of Mentors
Every successful organization stands on the shoulders of those who came before it.
The Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems was blessed to begin its journey under the mentorship of experienced Kiwanians who believed that Lubao was ready to establish a club dedicated to serving children.
We are deeply grateful to the officers and members of the Kiwanis Club of Mariveles, whose encouragement, experience, and guidance helped our charter members establish a strong foundation during the club’s formative years particularly to Past Lt Governors Emmanuel Adriano, Jim Cagaoan, and Owen Fuertes.
We likewise acknowledge the invaluable support of the Kiwanis Club of Kuliat, particularly through the leadership of Past District Governor Maribel Garcia and Past Lieutenant Governor Loreta Ayson, whose mentorship and friendship strengthened our young club as it continued to grow.
Their generosity in sharing their knowledge, leadership, and experience became part of our story, and we remain forever grateful for helping us become the club we are today.
A Dream Becomes Reality
On August 1, 2015, the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems officially received its charter under the leadership of Charter President Jesusa “Susan” Uy-Capuli.
Susan envisioned a club that would become known not for its size, but for its heart. She inspired members to build friendships, serve with humility, and place children at the center of every project.
Her leadership established the values that continue to guide our club today.
Our First Taste of Success
Only a year after receiving our charter, the club celebrated its very first district recognition.
During the 2016 Philippine Luzon District Convention, the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems received its first Club Service Award for its outstanding service projects benefiting the community.
For a newly chartered club, this recognition meant everything.
It affirmed that even a young club could make a meaningful difference through dedication, teamwork, and genuine concern for others.
Rather than becoming our destination, the award became our motivation to serve even more.
Leadership That Inspires
The Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems has been blessed with leaders who understand that leadership is measured by service.
Charter President Jesusa “Susan” Uy-Capuli became the club’s first member to serve as Lieutenant Governor of Division 2B, serving during Administrative Years 2016–2017 and 2017–2018.
She was later followed by Marilen Ramos, who became the club’s second Lieutenant Governor, and Rey Bonaobra, who became its third.
Together, these leaders strengthened not only our own club but also many others throughout Division 2B.
Following his successful term as Lieutenant Governor under District Governor Felix “Jango” Grepo, Past Lieutenant Governor Rey Bonaobra was appointed District Administrative Secretary and as Philippine Luzon District Membership and Growth Chair for Administrative Year 2026–2027, serving on the HOPE Team under District Governor Atty. Aleta Tolentino.
His appointment reflects the district’s confidence in his leadership and commitment to helping more communities experience the joy of Kiwanis service.
Friendship That Strengthened a Club
Behind every milestone are friendships that make the journey worthwhile.
The enduring friendship among Susan Uy-Capuli, Marilen Ramos, and Marlyn van Es became one of the driving forces behind the growth of the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems.
Together, they represented the club at its very first Kiwanis Asia-Pacific (ASPAC) Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, held from March 8–10, 2018.
The following year, Susan and Marilen, together with fellow Kiwanians from Division 2B, once again represented the district during the 44th Kiwanis Asia-Pacific (ASPAC) Convention held in Taipei, Taiwan, from March 7–9, 2019.
Those international experiences broadened their perspectives, strengthened friendships across Asia-Pacific, and inspired new ideas that would later shape the club’s programs and leadership.
Although Susan passed away on October 15, 2019, her vision continues to live on in every service project and every child whose life is touched through Kiwanis.
A Tradition of Excellence
As the years passed, the club continued to grow—not only in membership but also in impact.
The Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems received Merit Awards during Administrative Years 2017–2018 and 2024–2025, recognizing the club’s sustained commitment to meaningful service and organizational excellence.
In Administrative Year 2020–2021, the club earned its first Outstanding Club Award, marking another significant milestone in its history.
That same year, Lieutenant Governor Marilen Ramos was recognized as one of the Outstanding Lieutenant Governors of the Philippine Luzon District.
Under her leadership, seven of the eight clubs in Division 2B were likewise recognized as Outstanding Clubs, demonstrating that servant leadership inspires collective success.
History repeated itself during Administrative Year 2024–2025, when Lieutenant Governor Rey Bonaobra once again led Division 2B to remarkable achievements, with seven of eight clubs earning Outstanding Club recognition, including the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems.
These accomplishments remind us that success is always greater when it is shared.
Reaching Beyond Our Community
As the club matured, its stories of service began reaching audiences beyond Pampanga.
In March 2024, the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems received its first regional recognition when its entry documenting the Division 2B Joint Tree-Planting Project became one of only two finalists in the ASPAC Green Generation Photo Contest, presented during the 49th Kiwanis Asia-Pacific Convention in Adelaide, Australia.
It was the first regional award received by the club and a proud moment that demonstrated how local service can inspire the international Kiwanis community.
During the second week of August 2024, another milestone quietly transformed the club’s future.
The club officially launched its Kiwanis International website, providing a permanent digital home where stories, service projects, milestones, and member achievements could be shared with the world.
The website has since become an important platform for preserving the club’s history and showcasing its impact to members, partners, and prospective Kiwanians.
Making History on the International Stage
Administrative Year 2025–2026 became the most successful chapter in our history.
For the first time, the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems sent three official delegates to the Kiwanis International Convention, held jointly with the ASPAC Convention in Manila, Philippines, from June 24–27, 2026:
Past Lieutenant Governor Rey Bonaobra
Club President Merced Miguel
Assistant Secretary Micaella D. Bonaobra
During the convention, the club achieved what once seemed unimaginable.
The Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems won two Grand Prize awards in the ASPAC Stories Video Competition:
Grand Winner – Video 2: Our Impact
Grand Winner – Video 3: Why I Joined Kiwanis, featuring Lieutenant Governor Marilen Ramos.
Those awards represented far more than international recognition.
They celebrated the countless hours volunteered by members, the stories of children whose lives had been touched, and the belief that even a small club from Lubao could inspire Kiwanians across the world.
Looking Ahead
Today, the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems continues to grow through the dedication of its officers, members, volunteers, mentors, and supporters.
Our greatest achievements are not measured by trophies or certificates but by the children we serve, the communities we strengthen, and the friendships we build along the way.
Although we remain a young club, we look toward the future with hope and excitement.
There are more children to reach.
More communities to serve.
More leaders to develop.
More lives to change.
And more chapters of our story waiting to be written.
