Waves of Joy: Lambiki Coastal Outreach Brings Smiles to Children in Lubao, Pampanga

Nestled along the coastal edge of Lubao, Pampanga, the community of Lambiki—officially part of Sta. Teresa 2nd—is home to approximately 4,260 residents, most of whom rely on fishing as their primary source of livelihood. While the sea provides for their daily needs, the remote location also means that help and outreach services seldom reach this community. Accessible only through motorized bancas via small ports known locally as dungans—located in Balantacan and the newly opened Calangain—travel to Lambiki is a journey that requires both time and determination.

On Oct 9, 2025 members of the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems embarked on this journey, bringing with them not just supplies but also hope, joy, and a reaffirmation of the Kiwanis mission: to improve the world one child and one community at a time.

An Adventure Across the Waves

Getting to Lambiki was its own story. Volunteers traveled by motorized banca—without outriggers—over the open water. Each sway of the small pump boat brought squeals from some and laughter from others, making the journey a mix of nerve-wracking moments and pure fun. It was a reminder that volunteer work in coastal areas isn’t just about giving—it’s also about embracing the adventure.

A Joyous Coastal Outreach with Big Impact

Despite the travel expense and the challenge of riding the banca—which caused equal parts laughter, screams, and a touch of nervousness among those unfamiliar or fearful of open water—the journey was filled with anticipation. The destination was worth every moment.

Once ashore, the Kiwanians were met with the bright smiles of Lambiki’s children and the warm welcome of their families.

Impact in Numbers:

  • 50 children were served warm, comforting bowls of lugaw (rice porridge) with egg, paired with biscuits, a juice drink, and fresh grapes.
  • 20 toddlers received much-needed essentials: diapers, milk, and clothes—gifts that parents deeply appreciated.

This heartfelt outreach was made possible through the generosity of Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems members, whose commitment to service goes beyond geographical barriers.

Life in Lambiki: Why Every Outreach Matters

Living in Lambiki means living in close connection to the sea. Fishing is the lifeblood of the community, but it is also a livelihood vulnerable to weather changes and environmental challenges. Public services, including educational and health support, are harder to access here due to its distance from the town center.

That is why projects like Waves of Joy are not just “charity events”—they are lifelines of compassion, ensuring that children and families in isolated areas feel seen, valued, and cared for.

Teamwork and Gratitude

The event was possible thanks to the hardworking teachers who cooked the food, the tireless coordinator who organized the venue and the schedule, and the generous donors who supported this service project for coastal communities. Their combined effort turned a plan into reality and brought hope to children who rarely receive such visits.

Why This Coastal Outreach Matters

Lambiki is one of many communities in the Philippines where assistance is not frequent. The coastal children assistance we provided brought visible joy—the kind you could see in their smiles as they enjoyed their meals and tried on new clothes. It was proof that charity events for coastal kids in the Philippines can make a meaningful impact, even in a single day.

This wasn’t just a feeding program in St. Teresa 2nd—it was a day of connection, laughter, and shared purpose.

Beyond the Waves: Fellowship and Mission

The Waves of Joy project was not just about what was given—it was about the connection made. It was a day of fellowship, laughter, and reaffirmation of what Kiwanis stands for: service, compassion, and community building.

As the bancas carried the Kiwanians back to the mainland, hearts were full and spirits high. The waves that splashed during the ride became a symbol—of resilience, of joy, and of the unwavering Kiwanis commitment to reach even the farthest shores.
