Unity and Bayanihan: Kiwanians Unite to Aid Typhoon Kristine Victims

In the face of one of the most devastating natural disasters to hit the northeastern Philippines, Kiwanians have come together in a remarkable display of unity and compassion to assist the victims of Typhoon Kristine. Widespread flooding and landslides, triggered by torrential rains, have left over 24 dead, swept away vehicles, and submerged entire communities, including homes in Bicol, Quezon, and Isabela provinces. As rescue efforts continue, Kiwanians across the country have responded with the spirit of “bayanihan” to provide swift and meaningful aid to those affected.

Bicol, the chosen area for Kiwanis’ focused relief efforts, is home to several Kiwanis clubs, allowing for coordinated and accelerated assistance. The region has been severely impacted, with record-breaking floods displacing thousands and communities left in dire need. Immediate Past Governor Glenda Hufano, demonstrating her deep commitment, personally donated two rubber boats to assist in the rescue operations. Meanwhile, current Governor Felix “Jango” Grepo has taken the lead in calling for donations, and Kiwanians have responded overwhelmingly, embodying the heart of their mission—service to the community.

Governor Grepo will personally travel to Bicol to oversee the distribution of aid, reinforcing the Kiwanis organization’s hands-on approach in times of crisis. Lt. Governor Rey has also encouraged the active involvement of Division 2B members, further bolstering the collective effort to extend a helping hand to the Bicolanos in need. This mobilization of resources and support highlights not only the generosity of Kiwanians but also the shared sense of responsibility within the Filipino community to lift each other in times of calamity.

The response to Typhoon Kristine showcases the unbreakable spirit of unity and “bayanihan” that defines both the Filipino people and the Kiwanis community. As donations continue to pour in, and with on-the-ground efforts led by dedicated leaders like Governor Grepo, the victims of Typhoon Kristine can find hope and relief amidst their challenges.

The Kiwanis organization remains committed to supporting recovery and rebuilding, standing in solidarity with all those affected by this disaster. Together, through unity, compassion, and action, we will rise and overcome.
