Building Up with Purpose: A Year of Service, Growth, and Lasting Impact

In Kiwanis, leadership is not defined by titles or accolades—it is measured by impact, unity, and the lives touched along the way. For Administrative Year 2024–2025, Lieutenant Governor Reynaldo M. Bonaobra of Kiwanis Division 2B, Philippine Luzon District turned the theme “Better to Best, Building Up” into a living, breathing reality.

Under his stewardship, Division 2B not only strengthened its internal bonds but also expanded its reach to serve more children and families than ever before. His term was a masterclass in leading with heart, forging partnerships, and creating history in the Kiwanis movement.

Breaking Records, Setting Standards

Lt. Gov. Rey made history by executing the first-ever Interisland Division Council Meeting (DCM) in the Philippine Luzon District—an ambitious undertaking that brought leaders together in an unprecedented way.

His Division didn’t just meet the standard ten DCMs a year. Under his watch:

  • 11 in-person DCMs were successfully conducted.
  • 4 emergency DCMs were held online to address urgent matters and keep momentum strong.
  • Division 2B boasted one of the largest delegate contingents (32) at the Kiwanis Nights, held January 25, 2025, at Solaire Resort Hotel—demonstrating unity and visibility at the district level.

Four Major Joint Projects That Made a Difference

Lt. Gov. Rey’s leadership saw four impactful joint Division 2B projects that blended service, community engagement, and environmental stewardship.

1. Tree Planting for Kiwanis One Day – Lubao, Pampanga

After multiple postponements due to inclement weather, the Gumain Riverbank Tree Planting took root on November 16, 2024—even under Typhoon Kristina’s Signal No. 2 warning.

  • 250 saplings planted along a protected erosion zone.
  • 50 saplings donated to Del Carmen National High School with a signed MOA for upkeep.
  • 120 students joined in the effort, learning firsthand the importance of environmental care.

2. Kiwanis Week 110th Anniversary Celebration – Guagua & Angeles City

From January 19–26, 2025, Kiwanis Week brought energy and joy:

  • Wreath-laying at Plaza Burgos, Guagua with Mayor Alex Torres and Councilor Jovy Tinio.
  • “Zumbaliit” dance fitness event with daycare children electrified the celebration.
  • Performers received gifts, towels, tumblers, sweets, and a special Jollibee lunch.
  • The celebration continued at EPZA Resettlement Elementary School, where 300 children were fed and given gifts.

3. School Supplies for Remote Children – Dueg, Maasin, Tarlac

In challenging weather, Division 2B drove 2,000 feet above sea level to reach a remote school where 120 children awaited help. When unsafe conditions forced a change, supplies were entrusted to the school principal for safe distribution. The journey itself became a testament to the Kiwanians’ resilience—huddled together in a humble shack, sharing simple food, their spirits unshaken.

4. Relief Operations in Bacolor, Pampanga

Following devastating floods, Division 2B united in relief efforts:

  • 134 grocery packs with ready-to-eat food and hygiene kits distributed to displaced families.
  • Snacks and bottled water for 528 individuals, both children and adults.
This swift, coordinated action brought comfort and relief to hundreds of people affected by the disaster.

Membership Growth Milestone

Perhaps one of the most remarkable achievements of his term was membership growth. In just his first quarter, membership in Division 2B jumped from 130 to 173 members—a 33% increase, the largest in years.

The biggest contribution came from his mother club, Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems, which welcomed 11 new members. For his outstanding recruitment efforts, Lt. Governor Rey received the Distinguished Member medal from Kiwanis Philippine Luzon District, a distinction typically awarded for bringing in five (5) new members.

Leadership That Builds, Inspires, and Unites

Lt. Gov. Rey’s leadership style was as much about listening as it was about acting. He fostered strong collaborations with local government units, schools, and businesses, multiplying the reach and efficiency of every project.

His guiding principle:

“Leadership is not about the position—it’s about the purpose. It’s the shared fire in every Kiwanian’s heart to serve with love, humility, and light. We don’t just run programs; we change lives. And we lead not for applause, but to build something that lasts.”

Under his term, Division 2B:

  • Maintained a laser-focus on children and families as the heart of every project.
  • Encouraged younger generations to step into service and leadership roles.
  • Built unity among clubs—transforming individual efforts into collective success.

A Legacy Beyond a Term

From feeding programs to environmental initiatives, from cultural celebrations to life-saving relief missions, Lt. Gov. Rey proved that “Better to Best, Building Up” is not just a theme—it’s a way of leading that others can follow.

His work was never about personal recognition but about building something lasting for the children, communities, and Kiwanians who will carry the torch forward.
