From the spark of an idea to the realization of a dream, the journey of Kiwanis CLub of Lubao Gems began with a single moment of inspiration and a fierce determination to serve the children.
How It All Started
Every great journey begins with a story. Ours is no different.
In 2012, the Kiwanis Club of Lubao embarked on a remarkable journey of service, spurred by the vision of Division 2B elders and the late Jesusa “Susan” Uy. Past Lieutenant Governors Manuel Adriano, Jim Cagaoan, and Owen Fuertes recognized the need for Kiwanis presence in Lubao, Pampanga, and entrusted Susan with the vital task of recruitment and establishment.
Undeterred by the challenges, Susan eagerly reconnected with high school classmates to rally support. Despite the uphill battle, after numerous meetings and persuasive appeals, the club finally took shape. With the minimum requirement of 15 members met, the Kiwanis Club of Lubao was officially chartered on August 4, 2012. Among the founding members were high school mates from Holy Rosary Academy, Batch 1986, alongside other dedicated individuals and professionals. Susan assumed the role of Charter President, supported by Bernadette Vitug as Charter Secretary and Marlyn van Es as Chairman of the Board. Chartering Night was celebrated at Raven’s Resort in Abucay, Bataan in the presence of the late District Governor Florencio “Poly” C. Lat, who eventually became Kiwanis International President in 2018-2019.
Committed to service from the outset, the club undertook a minimum of 12 projects per year. However, an unfortunate circumstance led to the de-chartering of the club after two years. Undeterred by this setback, members remained steadfast in their dedication to serving children. Thus, on August 1, 2015, the club was revived and renamed as the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems, with Jesusa Uy once again serving as Charter President together with Marlyn van Es as Charter Secretary and Marilen Ramos as Charter Treasurer.
Since then, the club has been a stalwart presence in Division 2B under the Philippine Luzon District, consistently participating in division activities and earning recognition as one of its outstanding clubs. Notably, the club’s entry to the Green Generation Photo Contest of Kiwanis ASPAC reached the Finals, highlighting its commitment to environmental stewardship. The photo entry was chosen as one of the two Finalists on March 9, 2024 in celebration of Kiwanis ASPAC Convention held in Adelaide, Australia.
Today, Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems is composed of volunteers from teachers, nurses, real estate professionals, business owners, overseas workers, singers, engineers, farmers, and housewives. This little club composed of 15 to 18 volunteers per year, had also produced three (3) Lieutenant Governors of Division 2B– Charter President Jesusa Uy (AY 2013-2014), Charter Treasurer Marilen Ramos (AY 2020-2021), and Past Club President Reynaldo M. Bonaobra (AY 2024-2025). In fact, it was during the administration of our very own Past Lieutenant Governor Marilen Ramos that Division 2B had it’s greatest achievement— having 7 out of its 8 clubs in the Division recognized as Outstanding Clubs by Philippine Luzon District. For our small club to have produced three (3) Lieutenant Governors is an achievement of the club we are so proud of.
