About the Author

I am Marlyn van Es, one of the proud charter members of the Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems, Division 2B, Philippine Luzon District.

My Kiwanis journey began on August 4, 2012, when I was invited by my dear classmate, the late Jesusa “Susan” Uy, to join the then newly established Kiwanis Club of Lubao. Guided by Susan and the elders of Division 2B, I discovered something that had been missing in my life: a cause I truly love—serving the children of the world.

When the Kiwanis Club of Lubao was dechartered due to unforeseen circumstances, I remained committed to the mission of Kiwanis. In August 01, 2015, I became a charter member and charter secretary of the newly founded Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems, where I continue to serve with pride and dedication.

Over the years, I have held leadership roles including Chairman of the Board of Directors and Secretary. Even while living abroad, my passion for service never waned. I continued to actively support the club through online meetings, communications, and social media management, ensuring that our projects and stories reached the wider community. I currently serve as Club Secretary and manages the club’s websites, Facebook, and Instagram pages, keeping our mission visible and engaging.

My dedication was recognized when I was named the club’s first Outstanding Club Secretary, an honor that coincided with KC-Lubao Gems being recognized as one of the Outstanding Clubs of Division 2B.

Today, as one of the two remaining charter members of Kiwanis Club of Lubao Gems, I take pride in being considered one of its “elders.” For me, Kiwanis is not just an organization—it is a lifelong commitment to service, friendship, and making a difference in the lives of children and communities.

Service is not measured by the distance you travel, but by the love and dedication you give along the way—and for me, that love is in serving children, because every child we help today shapes a brighter tomorrow.”

In short,

Serving with love today, for the children who shape tomorrow.”
